CANYON CLIMBERS CLUB

For years, marathon runners have endured long distances in their quest for bragging rights and prestigious t-shirts. Now, state park hikers have their own conquest that ends with an exclusive “I did it!” t-shirt. Georgia’s new Canyon Climbers Club is reserved for those who dare to scale to the top of Amicalola Falls, explore the depths of Providence Canyon, brave the swinging bridge in Tallulah Gorge and face the daunting staircase in Cloudland Canyon. Created by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ State Parks Division, the Canyon Climbers Club is a way to encourage Georgians to “Get Out. Get Dirty. Get Fit.” The new slogan recognizes that parks not only protect natural environments, they also provide beautiful settings for exercise and recreation. Few would argue that climbing a 1,000-foot canyon is more adventurous and challenging than spending 30 minutes on a Stairmaster. The club also encourages families to exercise together in a way that is exciting for children. For more informations visit getoutdoorsgeorgia.org

JUNIOR RANGER PROGRAM

With school out for the summer, what could be a better way to get the kids off the couch and enjoying the great outdoors then with a fun-filled program with badges as incentives. Children ages 6-12 will have fun learning in the outdoors as they work toward earning a Junior Ranger badge. By following the guidelines in the Junior Ranger Activity Book they will experience nature first-hand, explore Georgia’s fascinating history and enjoy outdoor recreational activities. The experience builds as children work their way through three badge levels. Free Junior Ranger Activity Books are available at all of Georgia’s State Parks & Historic Sites – refer to our website to find the site nearest you. There are 63 sites statewide and a site within 50 mi les of every Georgia resident. If you are not able to pick up your book in person you can download the book online in pdf format (1.6 MB).
