Before you pack up the tent and head off to your remote destination, be sure to take the time to follow these simple tips to avoid a potential camping nightmare.

Cleaning
• Set up tent and wipe down the fabric and poles with mild soap and lukewarm water.
• Keep the tent assembled to fully dry and prevent mold.
• Remove salt spray from tents used during oceanside camping trips to avoid corrosion.
• Clean zippers and wipe away sand and dirt from teeth.

Seam Sealing
• In a fully ventilated area, assemble tent and use approved outdoor sealant to seams that are exposed to rain, runoff or ground level water.
• Apply seams to the inside and outside of exposed seams.
• Use small brush to spread sealant evenly and allow an hour for sealant to dry.

Big Fish In Your Own Backyard
Contributed by Kevin Toomer

Local saltwater bays and estuaries often hold huge fish because they serve as staging areas for migrating and spawning baitfish. In addition, they provide structure and cover for big predators seeking unsuspecting prey.

Visit these local waters at low tide. Look for structures such as sand bars, pockets or drop-offs. These are likely places for bait to hide and predators to hunt.

Whether you use bait or lures, learn tactics to fish all levels of the water column in these areas. Remember, moving tides are advantageous because they often stimulate the bite.

Your next trophy may be closer than you think!
